This morning, we found a dog lying on the road, whimpering softly. His long, dirty fur obscured his face, but I could sense his pleading eyes as he looked at us. The dog was huddled in a corner next to a pillar, with scattered food nearby, likely left by passersby. He was unable to crawl or stand, and his hind legs appeared severely injured. The air around him was thick with a foul odor, and hundreds of flies buzzed incessantly.
I cleared away the surrounding trash and tried to fan away the flies, but words fail to capture the direness of his condition. The sight filled our hearts with anguish, imagining the suffering the dog endured. He continued to cry and whimper, as if pleading not to be abandoned.
I offered him food, which he greedily ate while still whimpering. Never before had we seen such a emaciated animal; he weighed barely a kilogram. Immediate medical attention was crucial if he was to survive the coming days.
We laid down a layer of newspaper in the back of the car to make him comfortable and two kind-hearted girls joined us to clean up and comfort the dog. Together, we rushed him to the hospital, where he received urgent and specialized care. Due to his extreme frailty, the doctors couldn’t perform tests right away. They recommended hospitalization for at least a week for monitoring and intensive care before conducting further tests to determine his condition accurately.
As we bid farewell, promising to return and offer encouragement, we wanted the dog to know he wasn’t alone. The rescue team remained committed to supporting him through his recovery, no matter the obstacles. We were determined to give this poor angel a chance at healing and happiness.
